As all of us who have been involved in scouts more than a week know, scouting can be expensive. Between the uniforms, the yearly rechartering fees, and the monthly campouts, it can be overwhelming at times.

 
We have already begun to plan for next year, and we anticipate another great year with one of the highlights being our annual summer camp.  Each year, the boys choose a location where they can attend a week long camp, enrich their scouting skills and earn merit badges.  Unfortunately, to attend summer camp the fee each scout incurrs can be cost prohibited.

Part of being able to participate in the scouting experience is the sacrifices that need to be made to the program. However, this does not mean you have to do it without assistance. The troop has several fundraiser programs it participates in to help defray costs for the troop and the scouts. If the scouts and their parents participate in the fundraiser programs a portion of the money raised is placed in an individual account for the scout. The money in the scout’s individual account can be used to assist with the camping and outing costs for the scout throughout the year.

We highly encourage the scouts and their parents to participate in this year’s fundraisers:

Popcorn sales
40% of all sales are credited to the scout’s individual account.
Sales generally begin in September.

It will begin this year on the day after Thanksgiving.
A portion of all proceeds are credited to the scout’s individual account.

Scout Accounts
Typically a percentage of the money earned by a Scout in support of Troop fundraising activities is deposited into the Scout’s campership account. The Scout can use the account for any Scout-related function, typically campouts or summer camp fees. However, the balance is the Troop’s resources and will not be provided to the Scout or his family upon separation from the Troop. Separation is evidenced by failure to re-charter in the annual Troop re-charter process. Scout campership accounts do not earn interest.

Financial Assistance

We understand in these trying economic times sometimes additional assistance is necessary. The troop offers a limited number of Camperships throughout the year. A number of factors are involved in the decision on who receives these awards, including the extent of the need, the participation of the scout in the troop, the event or expense being requested, and whether the scout and/or their parents have participated in the troop’s fundraiser events.
